There's a bug in the original versions of the game that cause it to lock and delete your personal records if you get to Akuma (and remember: comically easy, so you'll be doing that regularly). The sprites are taken from the SNES games but it's a version of Super Turbo so for the Super Turbo-only moves, the game uses the larger arcade sprites instead, meaning your characters physically change size for the duration of those moves. It's a flawed version of Street Fighter II in a whole bunch of ways. Thinking a bit about an example that's probably closer to the spirit of the topic - Street Fighter II Turbo Revival on GBA. Maybe too many to name, considering how many arcade conversions to 8-bit and 16-bit machines there were, and nearly all of them were inferior in all sorts of ways.

Tiger Road (PC Engine) - I honestly prefer the graphical style the PC Engine version had over the arcade version. Crawfish did an amazing job bringing these games to handhelds, I wish they had chance to work on more Capcom ports ( Super slick animation, surprisingly solid controls (depending on the Gameboy you use) and they retain all the characters and moves. Street Fighter Alpha 1&3 (GBC and GBA) - these two ports, while nowhere near arcade perfect, are miracle ports. But yeah, way more fun than the arcade version, even though its really different in level design.

I can actually complete this one without hating myself.īionic Commando - We all know the story by now. It plays much better than the average arcade version. All play excellently well, might be missing a little content here or there but they are top class ports that Id happily play over the arcade ones any day.

Strider/Forgotten Worlds, Ghouls n Ghosts, Street Fighter 2 Dash (aka Turbo/Champion Edition) - Sega/Capcom did an amazing job with these games on the Mega Drive. Absolutely recommend this one above the arcade version. Its also not a straight arcade port, they did a good job fleshing out the game a bit more. Its actually not an absolute nightmare to play anymore. Gun.Smoke (Famicom Disk System) - VASTLY better than the arcade version. Its not arcade perfect but I love how the game plays and I enjoyed it at least as much as the arcade version. Side note - I enjoy all/most versions of these games, but an example of where console ports of arcade games etc. I'm curious to know the instances where, for whatever reason, the version of the game that you have memories of is the version considered least optimal to play. Like, Skyrim on Switch might not be the best looking version of the game, but it is by all counts a very well made port so I wouldn't personally consider it here. Obviously the parameters of what I'm asking are subjective and up for interpretation, but the spirit of the question is that there are versions of some games that if all other circumstances were equal you just wouldn't choose.

Playing The Witcher 3 on Switch, or Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS, because you value portable play I mean cases where, while playable, there are versions that are head and shoulders more technically competent, or have more features. Have there been any cases where the version of a game that you played, and the memories you have of it, were of what would be defined as the "inferior" version of that game? By that I don't mean like you played a game on PS5, while the XSX had slightly better framerate.
